The Kids Two Bear Marathon
Sunday, September 10th 11:00am

The Two Bear Kids Marathon is structured to allow children in grades K-8 to complete a full 26.2 mile marathon at a rate that is fun and safe for their growing bodies, “one stride at a time”. The goal of the Kids Two Bear Marathon program is to empower youth to make healthy lifestyle choices while giving them the powerful experience of steady progress towards achieving big goals. The program culminates at 11:00am on September 10th, in conjunction with the Two Bear Marathon event, when children will run or walk the final mile of their marathon – starting and ending at The Wave – in celebration of their accomplishment. Parents are encouraged to join their children.

HOW DOES THE TWO BEAR KIDS MARATHON WORK?

Easy, follow these simple steps:

  1. Register for the event online or send in a paper registration form, and don’t forget to have parents sign the waiver.
  2. Download the Two Bear Kids Marathon training guide.
  3. Read the training guide, afterwards parents and kids discuss a reasonable plan to set and achieve the goal of logging 25.2 miles or more by September 18, 2016.
  4. Parents make sure kids have the necessary equipment, notably good shoes and proper clothing, to safely begin a running or walking program.
  5. Parents and kids together discuss safe and enjoyable routes to accumulate miles, parents help convert landmarks to distances (one lap around the block = 1/2 mile). Begin moving towards your goal!
  6. Kids and parents together chart progress on the mileage log, the goal is to log 25.2 miles by September 18th.
  7. Attend Two Bear Kids Marathon training sessions at the Whitefish High School track (map). Summer dates TBA.
  8. Participate in the celebration run with all registered kids and their supporters on September 18th at The Wave. Enjoy post-event goodies and the camaraderie

THE CELEBRATION EVENT/COMPLETING YOUR MARATHON!

The concluding event of the Two Bear Kids Marathon is a 1-mile celebration walk or run for all participants and their supporters. The race will be held Sunday September 18th at 11 am at The Wave in Whitefish, Montana. The event focus is on celebrating individual accomplishment as part of a large group, not so much on racing where the fastest are rewarded. There will be no formal recognition of place. In fact, we will not report your time, so be prepared to track that yourself. The course is exactly 1-mile long. True to the larger Two Bear Marathon and Half Marathon runs, the course is challenging but possible for those who have done their training. All registered finishers will receive a Two Bear Kids Marathon finisher medal. Report to The Wave by Sunday September 18th at 10:30 am to check-in and pick up your t shirt before the event! The celebration mile starts in front of The Wave on Baker Avenue in Whitefish, Montana. Start time is 11 am. Participants can gather in The Wave parking area adjacent to Baker Avenue prior to the start.
